Basketball DVD Review: Zone Killers

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

I just finished watching Full Court Productions: Zone Killers by Lason Perkins. If you follow my blog then you know that I have a lot of respect for Full Court Productions and Lason Perkins. I think that their basketball dvds have a lot of “bang” for your hard earned money. That is very important since dvd cost have started to increase lately with some companies.

Here is what you get with this dvd: Introduction to Zone Offense, 23 Set Plays plus 3 bonus whiteboards, 4 inbounds plays with whiteboard action, attacking half court traps, and the conclusion.

I am really impressed with the amount of material in this dvd. This dvd will give you so many options to add to your continuity zone offense if you run one. I personally liked the Ettore Messina CSKA set play that was demostrated. Coach Perkins had couple Jeff Van Gundy set plays that I liked also.

I am also a HUGE “Out of Bounds” coach. I view out of bounds and sideline plays as “special teams” like in football. I really liked “Box” play that was shown on the dvd. He will give you four different out of bounds plays versus the zone.

The “attacking half court traps” portion of the dvd had pressbreakers to attack a 1-3-1 and 2-1-2 traps.

I really liked the dvd and would give it a 4 stars out of 5. I would have liked to see more inbounds / sidelines plays in the dvd or I would have given it a 5 stars. I just don’t think that you can go wrong with anything from Lason Perkins and Full Court Productions. I really like the slow motion concepts that they use in the dvds and the whiteboards. If you don’t know what a whiteboard is then it is like a chalkboard talk. Coach Perkins shows you the set play then uses slow motion review, and then diagrams it on the whiteboard for you.

You can locate this dvd and their entire series at http://www.basketballsense.com/

It has a lot of “bang” for your buck and I think that it is a good purchase for your coaching library.
