Larry Brown has had an extensive coaching journey in college ranks as well as in the NBA spanning nearly five decades. He is currently the head basketball coach at Southern Methodist University based in Dallas, Texas. He is the only coach in basketball history to win both an NCAA championship and an NBA championship. In college, Coach Brown led the University of Kansas to a national title in 1988 defeating conference rivals Oklahoma. In 2003-04 NBA season, Coach Brown won his first championship at the pro ranks during his first year with the Detroit Pistons defeating the Los Angeles Lakers four games to one in the finals.
He is widely known as ‘Mr. Fix It’ in basketball community because of his ability and history of turning teams with losing records around and building them into contenders. He is regarded by many as one of the best teachers in the history of the game. His ability to teach the game and having players play the game the right way is what has made Coach Brown a well-deserved Hall of Famer.
As a player, Larry Brown attended the University of North Carolina and played on the Tar Heels’ basketball team from 1960 to 1963 where he played for two legendary coaches, Frank McGuire and Dean Smith and it was During that time Brown was selected for the 1964 Summer Olympics team, on which he played and with which he won a gold medal.
In 2012 coach Brown took over the basketball programme at Southern Methodist University and since his arrival SMU has become a national powerhouse. In the attached document you will find some of the shooting drills that Coach Brown has used at SMU to develop his players. These drills can be done during individual workouts or during team practices. All of these drills are specifically designed for SMU’s offensive system – the kind of shots they expect to get out of their offense.
