Drill of the Week: 4 v 4 Utah Jazz Shell Drill by Chris Filios
A great 4 v 4 shell drill. In this Utah jazz shell drill, you will get to guard a handful of actions: guarding pin downs, a wing sprint ball screen, and a step-up ball screen.
The drill starts with 2 bigs on the wing and 2 guards down on the blocks or in the short step-out spot. The coach has the ball on the point.
- The 2 bigs pin down for the 2 guards
- Guards pop out to the wings
- Coach passes to one of the wings
- Opposite big sprints out to set a wing ball screen for a guard- big has a choice of pick and pop or pick and roll. Other big circles under the weak side block. ● Guard comes off the ball screen and throws ahead to another guard who has slid into the high slot. Big sprints up and set step-up PNR.
You can start the Utah jazz shell drill by having the offense go through all the actions so the defense learns to guard the different coverages. After going through a couple of times, let the players play live and give offense the ability to score off any of the actions.
