Ball Screen – Chest Series for Princeton Hybrid Offense

Escape Pressing Drills

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

BALL SCREEN – CHEST SERIES FOR PRINCETON HYBRID OFFENSE

This Princeton Hybrid Offense packet contains a series of four plays that all start the same but have a different ending to each individual play. This allow for a coach and team to give the defense similar looks offensively and catch them at a disadvantage, depending on how they defend the actions. All of these plays will flow easily back into our PRINCETON HYBRID OFFENSE.

Each play will begin with a simple pass and cut from the guard to guard pass. The guard cutting will create a rub screen on the posts defender. The post will sprint to ball screen on the ball, creating further separation from his defender. This ball screen is set up near the top of the circle and leaves the lane open for the drive. The driver has the option to score or kick out to the player in the ball side corner.

When the ball is kicked out the post will set a second screen on the other side of the floor for the opposite forward to curl to the basket. Often times this is a forward who also has the ability post on his cut. On all but one of the plays the post would now pop out to the top of the circle for reversal pass. They will catch the pass and reverse the ball to the opposite side of the floor. The opposite side is open for a backdoor pass, because we have emptied the forward on that side.

Each play has a separate ending after the reversal. The ending is dictated by the play called. We can set a 2nd ball screen on the ball. We can have a screen the screener action. We can iso the point guard with the ball and set a double down screen for a shooter. Finally we can bring a guard up to hand the ball and set a pin down on reversal.
