Here are two offensive plays from Villanova head coach Jay Wright. Wright just completed his 21st season as a head coach and his 14th as the head coach of the Villanova Wildcats. In 21 seasons, he has won 441 games. After playing his college ball at Bucknell, Wright got his coaching start as an assistant at Rochester. From there, he would hold assistant positions at Drexel, Villanova, and UNLV before taking over as head coach at Hofstra in 1994. As head coach at Hofstra, he steadily built the program up from 10 wins in 1994 to 26 wins his final season in 2000-2001. After winning 20+ games in 3-straight seasons at Hofstra, Wright took the head coaching job at Villanova. In 14 seasons, the Wildcats have won over 300 games, made the Sweet 16 four times, and won the Big East Regular Season Championship 3 times.

Jay Wright Villanova Offense – Quick Lob

1 dribbles from right to left as 5 flashes to the right elbow and 4 sets a screen for 3 at the slot. 3 loops around the screen looking to cut to the basket and catch a lob pass from the point guard.

Jay Wright Villanova Offense – Nova 2 Man

1 dribbles off of a high ball-screen from 5 as 2 runs across the baseline around a staggered-screen from 4 and 3. If 2 isn’t open for a shot, 1 turns back to the right as 5 screens down for 4. 1 looks to pass to 4 for a shot on the right wing. If 4 doesn’t have an immediate shot, 5 steps out to set a ball-screen on the right wing. 4 drives middle as 2 and 1 exchange positions and 5 rolls to the basket. 3 takes position in the short corner and looks for the dump pass from 4 if x3 commits to the penetration.
