Carolina 2 Zone Offense Set Play by Adam Short

Offensive Drills

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Carolina 2 Zone Offense Set Play

This is a great Zone Offense Set Play to run against a zone to really jump start your team. At Avila, we ran this play a little different. We would still have the 4 man screen the outside defender on the right side. The only difference is we would have the 5 man screen the middle man of the zone. After seeing this play ran having the 5 man flash to the high post, this is the way I will run it for now on. You can run this play on either side. You want the first pass to go to the player you are throwing the lob to. For this particular diagram, we will run this play on the right side. 1 will hit 3. X3 will come out to take 3. X2 will bump X3 back down.

1 and 2 will interchange. 3 will hit 2. X1 will have to come take 2. X2 will guard the high post. 2 will swing the ball to 1. X4 will come out and take 1; X2 will bump X4 down. 5 will then flash to the high post. This is force X5 to cover 5. 4 will sprint to set a back screen on X3. 3 will cut to the basket for the lob. To make this play work, 5 must cut to the high post hard. 5 must call for the ball which will help set the decoy. 4 is responsible for setting a great back screen. 4’s back must be to the basket. Like I said earlier, this is a great zone offense set play to get a team going.
