Steve Kerr NBA Golden State Warriors Motion Strong by Adam Spinella
Similar to Motion Weak, Motion Strong is a set Steve Kerr has adapted from the Spurs days to flow into a Horns offense. It may be very well-suited for the Warriors because it allows options for shooters Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to come off screens early in the shot clock, looking for catch-and-shoot threes. If it isn’t there, the automatic read is to hit the high post and go into a Horns read-and-react formation.
While the video does not show a ton of made baskets, the play has been very effective for the Warriors from a movement standpoint. What a motion set like this does for a team is allows them to spread the wealth and get offense from the offense, not from individual playmakers. That means that Kerr’s half-court sets are reliant on ball screens and keeping the ball in the hands of his playmakers. The two feed off of each other and are incredibly effective.
