Basketball Article | 2013-2014 NBA Chicago Bulls Preview by Michael Lang

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Today’s basketball article is the 2013-2014 Preview of the NBA Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls surprise the entire NBA last season making the playoffs without Superstar Derrick Rose. The bulls were one of the League’s best defensive teams as usually under coach Tom Thibodeau. For the 2013-14 season. Derrick Rose return back to the Bulls lineup. This group fo Rose, Noah, Boozer, Gibson, Deng has been playing together for more than three years, they should be able to win the Eastern Conference this year. Many teams in the Eastern Conference this year improved a great deal like the Indiana Pacers, Detroit pistons, and New York Knicks, but D-Rose makes all of the his teammates better. The Bulls did not make any major moves during the off season.  The Bulls did address a need to improve their 3-point shooting.

Mike Dun leavy  shot 456 from the 3 point area, Eric Murphy a 6’10 Power Forward shot over 40 at Florida. Last season and shot the ball well in the summer league in Vegas.  Tony Snella, 6’7 SF, with a wing span of 7’4 shot the ball well from the 3-point and plus he is a good defensive player that can guard 3 positions which makes him important to the Bulls defensive philosophy. Jimmy Butter will start at the 2 guard position if he played like he did last year in the playoffs watch here come the Chicago Bulls championship. Lool deng should be an all-star player again he will benefit from Derrick Rose return. Carlos Boozer will start at power forward, he average 15, 8ppg, 9.3 rbrg for the Bulls last season. Many fans were very hard on him, but he and D-Rose run the pick-a-roll very well. Look for Boozer to have a great season now that Rose is back. Also 6’10 Taji Gibson should be ready for some prime action as well as power forward-center positions.

 Jokim Noah will start at the center positions. Noah averages a double-double last year with a new improved offensive game. Noah is a warrior and the hard and soul of the Bulls. Mazr Mohammond should be a good back up to Noah, he played very well in the playoffs. Second year guard, Marquis Teauge is ready for some prime time action but Nate Robinson did a great job in running the team last year. Robinson signed a 2 year contract with the Nuggets. The bottom line, if the Bulls are going to win a Championship, several things must happen:

1.       Derrick Rose must return to the old D-Rose

2.       The Bulls perimeter shooting must improve. The will get open looks now D-Rose in back

3.       Play sound defense as usually

4.       Boozer must have an all-star year

5.       The bench must be productive;

All of these things must fall in place in order for the bulls to win a 7th NBA Title.
