NBA New York Knicks Elbow 2 Up Set Play
Here is a set play from the New York Knicks from when Mike D’Antoni was the head coach. D’Antoni led the Knicks during the 2008-2012 seasons and is now the head coach for the Houston Rockets. D’Antoni, known for his high-scoring and fast paced offenses, has coached since 1990 starting as the head coach of Olimpia Milano in 1990. In 1997, D’Antoni made the return to the United States joining the Denver Nuggets as an assistant. He then was the head coach for a season before taking over for Benetton Basket in Italy for the 2001-2002 season. He then returned to the NBA as a Phoenix Suns assistant and took over as head coach in 2003. D’Antoni then spent time with the Knicks (2008-2012), Lakers (2012-2014), and 76ers (2015-2016). D’Antoni has a talented Houston Rockets roster this season including James Harden, Trevor Ariza, Ryan Anderson, and Nene. Newcomers Kyle Wiltjer and Chinanu Onuaku will look to make an impact while young players Sam Dekker and Motrezl Harrell continue developing as consistent NBA players.
NBA New York Knicks Offense
Elbow 2 Up
This play starts with a horns set with either 4 or 5 at the elbows. The ball is entered to the high post and the point guard immediately sprints into a down screen for 2 in the corner. The post on that side then follows with another down screen to from a staggered down screen for 2 to cut up for a shot. By making the point guard run all the way down to be the first screener, it makes it difficult for teams to switch the action since the post player is setting the second, or top, screen on the play.
