Gregg Popovich San Antonio Spurs Playbook by Zak Boisvert

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Gregg Popovich San Antonio Spurs Playbook by Zak Boisvert

The Gregg Popovich San Antonio Spurs Playbook will show you why Coach Popovich is usually voted the best coach in sports by the fans. Coach Popovich would rather you discuss and not glorify his contributions to the game that he has cherished and cultivated for the better part of fifty years. The Gregg Popovich San Antonio Spurs Playbook is built on selfless, understated, seamless team-work that is predicated on cutting, screening, ball movement and above all, trust.

Coach Popovich is known for his fantastic leadership skills and especially his human skills. Accountability is the foundation for the San Antonio Spurs Mantra. When they falter on the court and look at the bench, Coach Popovich has been know to bark out: “I don’t have 14 time outs. Figure it out.”

Character is something that you don’t hear from most coaches, but the Gregg Popovich San Antonio Spurs Playbook almost dictates it. People always say that their teams have character and know how to win, know how to lose, and all those sorts of things. Usually it deals with the character of players that the San Antonio Spurs bring into their organization.

Gregg Popovich believes that you have to have a sense of humor for him and their staff. If people can’t make fun at themselves or laugh about a situation, then how are they going to be when they have to give themselves to the group.

Building relationships is huge if you want them to play for you, for the program, and for their teammates. Here is something that was HUGE for me. Coach Popovich said that winning the championship was great, but it fades quickly. It’s always there and nobody can take it away. It’s when Tony Parker brings his kid into the office, or some other player who came through the program and now I have hired him as a coach and he’s back. That’s satisfying.

He believes that you can’t get your satisfaction out of teaching somebody how to shoot or how to block out on a rebound. It’s not very important in the big picture. If you can have both, I think that you will get some satisfaction. It’s his motivation and that’s the selfish one, I guess, but it’s real.
