I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

You will also discover a well-spaced, disciplined fast break with a proven track record of success. You will learn how to build a wall to take away key scoring areas on the floor. Plus you learn a collection of Fred Hoiberg shooting drills from some of the NBA’s all time shooters.

Fred Hoiberg will take a look at the Iowa State Transiton offensive system. Coach Fred Hoiberg will focus on a simple primary break and secondary actions. You will get a glimpse into his playbook where some of these options haven’t been put into their offense yet. Key Points will include spacing, opening lanes for play-makers and being in position to force the defense to make decisions. Coach Fred Hoibergy will show you the spots on the floor that wings and posts need to fill to create good spacing. He will explain how his post players create space by running the floor and how players should react to middle and baseline drives.

Coach Hoiberg will show you the three secondary actions that involve drag screens, a double stagger screen and pin down screen. He will also include two quick hitters that take advantage of aggressive defenses to get good looks at the rim.

Coach Fred Hoiberg will also share two out of bounds plays and show you his philosophy of sectioning his season practice into three distinct segments and how each segment is used. He always tailors his offense to the personnel. With these open practice notes, you will be able to see his well-spaced, disciplined fast break that will leave defenses out of position and always one step behind the offense.
