Creighton University Set Play Offense by Greg McDermott

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Greg McDermott, Creighton Head Men’s Basketball Coach,  is one of the best set play offensive coaches in the country in my opinion.  These basketball coaching clinic notes will show you several pluses to running set plays versus motion offense.  Set Play Offense is a different system that can make your team more difficult to play and scout.  It takes advantage of individual player skill sets and talents.   You will be able to get specific shots from your best players on the floor too.

Set Plays are a important part of your offensive game preparation.  Adjustments can be made easily with this system.  Every one of Greg McDermott’s set plays has a counter and multiple looks.  Your opponent will have to prepare for every set play and screening situation which will be very difficult.  Coach McDermott will show you his first set play and the eight variations of it. These counters include comeback, fake, off the double, slip, pinch screen, lob and big’s 3-pointer.

Green Bay is a set out of a two-guard front with several great options for your best players. These options are lob, screener, multi-option, post up and ball screen.  He will also show you set plays versus a zone defense.  These basketball plays will include last shots, outside decoy, triple option, and baseline bounce.  I think that you will really enjoy this basketball coaching material.
