All Access UTEP Basketball Practice with Tim Floyd

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Coach Floyd provides you with a detailed look at how they gear their practices toward defending their opponent’s strengths and attacking their weaknesses offensively. You will also go inside a film session where they dissect their opponent’s tendencies.

This DVD set is one of the best of the All-Access series. You will watch Floyd and his staff plan a practice, see their offensive and defensive drills in whole and in part, and listen in as Floyd teaches his way through each practice.

PRACTICE BREAKDOWNS

Practice 1
Coach Floyd demonstrates how the Miners work daily to improve their defensive transition. You will get a look at the various drills that build from 5-on-2 to 5-on-5 getting back in transition and placing an emphasis on stopping the ball and influencing the first pass out. He utilizes his time by working on their “32” half-court offense at the same time forcing his players to sprint back after a make or a missed shot. During the first practice, you get a detailed look at how the Miners work to perfect their “32” motion offense along with transitioning from a set play to half-court offense quickly to beat the shot clock.

Practice 2
You will learn how to prepare a perfect practice as you watch Coach Floyd lead his staff through a detailed practice planning session. Floyd’s staff works to make each drill meaningful and purpose-driven as they prepare for their upcoming game against UNLV. Once on the floor, you will be able to pick up new quick hitting strikes that include post and guard pick-and-roll actions, including several that you can implement into your offensive system right away.

Floyd demonstrates how the Miners will defend strong post players when they catch inside by showing you their various traps, triangle and 2, and box and one defense. Finally, you get a great look at some valuable under the basket Out of Bounds plays that could help any team score an easy bucket.

Practice 3
Coach Floyd finishes his all access practice with an in-depth practice planning and scouting session. Before taking the floor, you get an hour of in-depth footage on how the Miners plan to take away the strong inside game of their next opponent.

Coach Floyd and his staff put together a challenging practice in order to prepare their players for a battle against a top rated opponent. As they prepare for the upset, you will see how Coach Floyd wants to perfect their “32” Half Court Offense into their “Green” Dribble Penetration Offense late in the shot clock.

Watch as Floyd puts his players through a competitive game to teach his players how to react during any given situation. You get an in-depth look at how to the Miners use their Red and Brown defenses to trap with post players and with situational players. He provides a look at how to break pressure defenses in the full court and half court. You will also pick up a few new quick hitting actions to beat a pressuring half-court zone defense.
