Wes Kosel will enter his first season as an Assistant Coach at Augustana University under Tom Billeter in 2016-2017. Kosel came to Sioux Falls after two season at Colorado College as the lead assistant. Kosel, a native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, served as an assistant coach at Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Texas Lutheran University from 2012-2014. Kosel graduated from the University of Kansas in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He also has a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Houston. While attending Kansas, Kosel served as an assistant coach at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. A life-long student of the game, Kosel honed his coaching skills by working summer camps for various programs in Texas, Colorado, Missouri, and New Mexico. Kosel also is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Personal Trainer, both of which are certifications earned through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Kosel and his wife, Molly, live in Colorado Springs.

Willis Wilson Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Offense by Wes Kosel

Attached in this playbook are two set plays from Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Head Coach Willis Wilson. Wilson is in his 5th season as Head Coach of the Islanders. Since taking over the program in 2011, he has gone from 6 wins in 2011-2012 to 20 wins last season. This season, the Islanders are 7-3 with a 4-0 record at home.  Before coming to Corpus Christi, Wilson was an assistant for Josh Pastner at Memphis from 2009-2011. Before that, Wilson was the Head Coach at Rice from 1992-2008. He played at Rice from 1978-1982 and became an assistant in 1985 for the Owls. He then took a high school job in Houston at Strake Jesuit before going back to Rice in 1987. He then was an assistant at Stanford for a season before becoming a head coach.

In this play, 1 passes to 3 on the left wing as 4 cuts to the ball-side corner. 5 sets a screen for 2 who cuts to the ball-side low post. If neither option is open, 3 passes back to 1. 1 then dribbles right off of a ball-screen from 5 at the pinch post. 1 dribbles right looking to turn the corner or pass to 5 rolling to the basket. 2 replaces up the lane line to clear out his defender as 5 is rolling.

1 dribbles right as 5 cuts up the lane line and gets a pass from 1. 4 sets a screen for 2 on the right wing. 2 cuts to the ball-side low post. If 2 isn’t open, 5 passes to 1 who dribbles to the right wing. After screening for 2, 4 cuts to the block and looks to post up. 1 looks to pass inside to 4. If he isn’t open, 3 and 5 set a staggered down-screen for 2. 2 cuts up to the top of the key for a shot.

Wes Kosel is an assistant coach for men’s basketball under Head Coach Andy Partee at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. Kosel joined the staff at Colorado College after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at Texas Lutheran University and one season at Haskell Indian Nations University. Kosel has an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Houston. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), both certifications given through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. He has coached summer AAU programs, volunteered with elementary and middle school basketball teams, and has worked basketball camps for various programs including the Houston Rockets, USA Basketball, University of Houston, Colorado, New Mexico, Air Force, Texas State, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Kosel is also a member of the NABC International Committee and serves as the committee’s social media manager.
