Wayne State Inbounds

Wayne State Inbounds

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

The following play can be ran for either the five or four men. If the inbounder calls 15, the play is for the center, and if 14 is called out, it’s being called for the power forward.

The three man will inbound, with a guard in each corner. The five and four will line up shoulder to shoulder on the strong side block, with the five on the outside and the four on the inside.

If the play call is 15, the four will step over to set a screen on the five man who will cut inside looking for the lob pass.

Once the defense has seen this and begins to anticipate the lob pass, call 14. The four will fake as if about to set a screen, and the five will also misdirect as if they are about to go inside for the lob pass again. The four man will then seal on the block, with the five cutting back down to the short corner, where they will receive the entry pass. This leaves the five the option to take the short jumpshot or feed his fellow big man down in the post.
