Wes Kosel will enter his first season as an Assistant Coach at Augustana University under Tom Billeter in 2016-2017. Kosel came to Sioux Falls after two season at Colorado College as the lead assistant. Kosel, a native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, served as an assistant coach at Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Texas Lutheran University from 2012-2014. Kosel graduated from the University of Kansas in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He also has a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Houston. While attending Kansas, Kosel served as an assistant coach at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. A life-long student of the game, Kosel honed his coaching skills by working summer camps for various programs in Texas, Colorado, Missouri, and New Mexico. Kosel also is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Personal Trainer, both of which are certifications earned through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Kosel and his wife, Molly, live in Colorado Springs.

Video Playbook – Toronto Raptors by Wes Kosel

Below is a video showing four plays from Toronto’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies earlier today. Coming into the game, Toronto has a 35-18 record and a 1st place position in the Atlantic Division. The Raptors are led by Head Coach Dwane Casey. He has been the Head Coach since 2011. Before that, Casey was an assistant with the Mavericks, Head Coach with the Timberwolves, and an assistant with the SuperSonics. Casey also coached overseas and at the college level. He was an assistant coach at Kentucky for two stints and at Western Kentucky in the 1980’s.

Toronto Raptors – Handoff Stagger Drive

Toronto got an open look off of the staggered screen for 3. 3 drove to the basket on a poor closeout by the Grizzlies.

Toronto Raptors – Horns Handoff Pop

Toronto used this play at the end of the quarter. Memphis doubled 4 coming off of the ball screen. With only one guy guarding 5 and 1, 4 made the right pass to 1 who hit an open 3-point shot with time running out.

Toronto Raptors – Elbow Curls Pick and Pop

Toronto used this set a couple of times. 2 curls around the screen then turns to clip x4. 4 runs over to set the ball-screen then pops to the open space on the left side.

Toronto Raptors – Horns Runner Option

Toronto used this play and spread out the Memphis defense. After the baseline ball-screen, the Grizzles were caught chasing and closing out on drivers allowing Toronto to get to the basket.

Wes Kosel is an assistant coach for men’s basketball under Head Coach Andy Partee at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. Kosel joined the staff at Colorado College after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at Texas Lutheran University and one season at Haskell Indian Nations University. He is also the head coach for the JV team at Colorado College. Kosel has an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Houston. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), both certifications given through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. He has coached summer AAU programs, volunteered with elementary and middle school basketball teams, and has worked basketball camps for various programs including the Houston Rockets, USA Basketball, University of Houston, Colorado, New Mexico, Air Force, Texas State, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Kosel is also a member of the NABC International Committee and serves as the committee’s social media manager.
