Utah Jazz Summer League Set Plays – Boston vs. Philadelphia by Wes Kosel
The Celtics and 76ers played in the Utah Jazz Summer League on July 4th. The matchup put the #1 pick and the #3 pick from the draft up against each other. Ben Simmons, the #1 pick in the NBA draft played 23 minutes, scored 10 points, and grabbed 8 rebounds. Jaylen Brown, the #3 pick for the Boston Celtics, scored 16 points and had 6 rebounds. Brown went to the free-throw line 17 times making 11 out of 17 for the game. The Celtics won the game 102-94 and shot 50% from 3-point range (11 of 22). Philadelphia struggled from beyond the arc only making 6 of 24 shots (25%). Terry Rozier and RJ Hunter had big scoring nights for the Celtics scoring 18 and 17 points, respectively.
The Head Coaches Step Aside
In the summer league, the Head Coaches let the assistant coaches take over allowing for the head coaches to evaluate during the games. For the Celtics, Micah Shrewsberry is the Summer League Head Coach. Shrewsberry was an assistant for Stevens at Butler from 2008-2011 and rejoined Stevens in 2013 as a Celtics assistant. For the 76ers, Billy Lange is the Summer League Head Coach. Lange has been with the 76ers since 2013 and before that was with Villanova, Navy, Merchant Marine Academy, and La Salle. He got his coaching start at Philadelphia University under Head Coach Herb Magee in 1996.

Boston Celtics – Stack Hi/Lo
In this set play, 2 runs the baseline off of a double screen at the left block and once he clears 3 pops out to the wing. Once 3 has the ball, 4 flashes to the high post looking for the ball and then to make the hi/lo pass inside to 5.
Philadelphia 76ers – Pin Pitch Rub
The 76ers ran this play to get Ben Simmons a drive to the rim. With Simmons being left handed, they run a rub screen allowing Simmons to drive from right to left.
