Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Training Basketball Coaches – Brad Underwood and Bob Huggins TABC Clinic Notes

Training Basketball Coaches are what the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches does during their clinics.

Here are 2016 TABC Clinic Notes on Brad Underwood and his mentor Bob Huggins.

Brad Underwood wasn’t happy about 0-2 in Big 12 play after the Texas loss last night. The Cowboys went to the locker room at halftime being up 39-37 after freshman Thomas Dziagwa hit a long two-point shot in the half. Jeffrey Carroll hit a jumper to make the score 50-46, and that’s where it got bad for the Cowboys. The Texas Longhorns went on a 15-0 run to capture the lead for good. The worst part of the loss was that the Longhorns scored on five straight uncontested layups.

The Cowboys weren’t everyday guys like Coach Underwood says in these clinic notes. Following that loss, the OSU Cowboys fall to 10-4 overall, and 0-2 in the Big 12 conference. Most of the talking heads have the Cowboys still in the NCAA Tournament as a tenth seed. They will have to play a lot better than last night. Texas was the worst loss on their schedule right now.

Bob Huggins has won 803 games as a college basketball coach, but I could tell that he wasn’t happy about their loss to Texas Tech the other night. He has 322 losses, but he has learned more at West Virginia, Cincinnati, Akron and Walsh than he could about those victories. West Virginia lost 77-76 to Texas Tech. They lost on a last-second shot and that is one of the hardest ways to lose a game.

Press Virginia didn’t bother the Red Raiders because they only forced 13 turnovers. The Mountaineers gave up the ball 14 times on their end. West Virginia is now 12-2 overall, 1-1 in Big 12 Conference play.

I think that Brad Underwood will have his team up for Baylor on Saturday and I would bet that Bob Huggins has his team ready for their game against TCU on Saturday too. These are two of the best college coaches in the country let alone the Big 12 Conference.
