Tom Izzo Michigan State Spartans Set Plays by Wes Kosel
Here are two set plays. These plays were used in Michigan State’s win over Kansas earlier this season. Izzo is in his 21st season as the head coach of the Spartans. They started the season with six straight wins and looking to make it seven straight with a win over Providence (typing on Sunday night). The six wins gives Izzo 501 in his career. That’s compared to only 199 losses (good for winning 71% of games coached). Izzo got his coaching start at the high school level in the 1970’s before becoming an assistant at Northern Michigan in 1979. From Northern Michigan, Izzo joined the Michigan State program as an assistant in 1983. He would coach under Jud Heathcote until Heathcote’s retirement in 1995. In Izzo’s 20 seasons as head coach, he has made the NCAA Tournament 18 times, 13 Sweet Sixteens, 9 Elite Eights, and 7 Final Fours. He has also been named Big Ten Coach of the Year three different times (1998, 2009, 2012), and was also named the NABC Coach of the Year in 2012.
