Here is another set play from Ohio State Buckeyes Head Coach Thad Matta. Matta is entering his 17th season as a head coach and 13th with the Ohio State basketball program. In his 16 years, he has a 422-139 record with no losing seasons. His 2007-2008 Buckeyes won the NIT Championship, and he has had three seasons with 30+ wins including a 65-11 stretch from 2011-2013. The Buckeyes made the Sweet 16 two years in a row in 2010 and 2011 and then the Final Four in 2012 followed by the Elite 8 in 2013. This past season, the Buckeyes missed out on the NCAA Tournament but made it to the Second Round of the NIT. The 2012 team lost to Kansas in the Final Four and Kansas would go on to lose to the NCAA Champion Kentucky Wildcats led by Coach John Calipari and Anthony Davis. Matta coached for several different successful coaches including Tates Lock, Herb Sendek, Phil Hopkins, and Barry Collier. Matta took over as the Butler head coach when Barry Collier left to coach at Nebraska. Matt was the National “Rookie Coach of the Year” leading the Bulldogs to a 24-8 record and an 11-3 conference record.

The play starts with 3 looping up and across the floor on an Iverson cut to get the ball on the right wing. This cut is often called a Euro or Piston cut as well. On the catch by 3, 2 and 1 space to the left and 4 steps out on the perimeter to face up for a kick out shot. 5 sets a side ball screen for 3 and then rolls or pops to the open space.
