He led them to the 2015 National Junior College Athletic Association National Championship title and has a record of 82-14 at Northwest Florida State. He was named the 2015 Spalding NJCAA Division 1 National Coach of the Year that season and has now led the team to back-to-back Panhandle Conference and Florida College System Activities Association State Tournament Championships in 2015 and 2016. Before coming to NWF State College, DeMeo was an associate Head Coach at Hofstra, Head Coach at Newberry College, assistant coach at Central Florida, assistant and associate head coach at Providence, assistant at Iona College, and head coach at Monroe Junior College. These notes include DeMeo’s “why’s” for ball-screen offense as well as two set plays from his ball screen offense.

Steve DeMeo Ball Screen Offense

1 pushes 2 to the corner and 5 follows with a drag ball screen. As 1 drives middle, 5 rolls, 4 stays in the short corner, 3 can stay on the wing or drift to the corner, and 2 fills up to the right wing. 1 has to try to engage a second defender on the pick and roll to get a kickout pass for a shot.

1 dribbles up the right wing pushing 2 to the opposite side of the floor. 5 drags into a ball screen for the point guard creating a two-man game on the right side with 4 on the opposite block, 3 on the wing, and 2 in the corner. On the screen, 1 looks to draw in defenders and make the pass for a shot.
