Special Teams: 3 Slob’s to Score by Greg Brown
I am a big believer that Special Teams are a great opportunity to steal baskets and create an advantage for your team. The key to effective special teams are to make them a priority to your players and give them due diligence in practice. These are 3 SLOB’s that are simple yet extremely effective and can be ran to create easy baskets for your players. Each of these 3 plays are designed to score, not just simply get the ball in bounds. We make it a priority to try and score on these plays and get the ball to our best players.
Special Teams “A”
This is a great opportunity to create a High/Low situation and get the ball to your best post player. The “2” which is usually your best shooter sprints to the ball side corner calling for the ball which removes the help. This is a great opportunity to get the ball in to the post in a one on one situation.
Special Teams “B”
This is a great opportunity to challenge a team that is playing hard man to man defense. Most teams don’t assume the ball is going to be inbounded to the post. The back screen is set and the help is removed again for a layup opportunity.
Special Teams “C”
This SLOB takes a little longer to develop but is a great opportunity to get the ball to you best post player on the block and also a staggered screen for a shooter. This play is extremely hard to defend and cover all of the options.
