Shaka Smart TABC Clinic Notes – Pressure Defense Part 2

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Shaka Smart TABC Clinic Notes – Pressure Defense Part 2

Here are the Shaka Smart TABC Clinic Notes – Pressure Defense Part 2. I think that you are going to like the part 2 that dives into full court defensive pressure. His VCU teams were one of the best in steals and deflections. I think that you will see the University of Texas in that role soon.

Shaka Smart has a lot of work to do with his 2016 men’s basketball team. His point guard and leader of the team left for the NBA draft. Isaiah Taylor will find out on thursday night whether his NBA gamble was the right choice. He has five seniors that are gone: Cameron Ridley and Prince Ibeh, long-range shooting forward Connor Lammert, and guards Javan Felix and Demarcus Holland.

Shaka will have tons of youth to work with which includes sophomores-to-be in guards Eric Davis Jr., Kerwin Roach Jr. and guard/forward Tevin Mack. They will only have two seniors: 6-8 forward Shaq Cleare and 6-3 guard Kendal Yancy.

Coach Smart will have two McDonald’s All-Americans in Jarrett Allen and James Banks, and a third (Andrew Jones) who may end up being his starting point guard. Coach Smart met with the media on wedsnesday morning in advance of next month’s Team USA U18 national team camp in Houston, for which he’s serving as head coach. Allen and Banks are among the 18 finalists trying for a spot on the 12-player roster.

They will be building at Texas, you never re-build. They are going to try and make themselves the best version of themselves.

The University of Texas basketball team is still smarting from the hail mary loss to Northern Iowa in the NCAA Tournament, the off-season move to elevate Jai Lucas into an assistant coaching role could be big in developing their rookie point guards.

It’s going to be a different team in August than the one in March Madness. It could prove to be Coach Smart’s best coaching job ever when they make the NCAA Tournament.
