Olympic Qualifying – Serbia vs. Puerto Rico Set Plays by Wes Kosel
In the second game of the Serbia Olympic Qualifying Tournament on July 4th, Serbia and Puerto Rico faced off in Belgrade, Serbia at the Belgrade Arena. A big push by Serbia in the second quarter gave Serbia a 41-31 halftime lead. Puerto Rico made a strong effort to comeback in the fourth quarter scoring 30 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit from the first three quarters. The top performers from the game were Nikola Kalinic (Serbia) with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals and John Holland (Puerto Rico) who had 21 points and 5 rebounds. Puerto Rico will play Angola on Tuesday and Serbia will face off against Angola on Wednesday. Below are some game highlights from the Serbia/Puerto Rico game.
Serbia Offense
Olympic Qualifying – SLOB Direct Slice Handoff
In this inbounds play, Serbia throws the ball directly into the post and runs a guard around him for a handoff.
Olympic Qualifying – Fake Shuffle Loop
This play uses a fake shuffle screen into a staggered screen to open up a shot at the top of the key.
Olympic Qualifying – Sprint Turn Down
The ball is passed to the wing and the opposite big sprints over for a ball-screen. If the defense jumps the screen, the ballhandler can turn down the screen and drive baseline.
Olympic Qualifying – Slice PNR
This play is all about timing. As the guard is cutting up towards the top of the key the ball-screen should be set just as he catches to drive right.

Puerto Rico uses a blocker/mover type set here with a cross screen and flare screen combo action.
