I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Quick Hitters vs. Zone: Wing Lob by Adam Spinella

Lob plays are great because if executed correctly, they provide a charge to your players and can swing the momentum of the crowd in your favor as well. Lobs are particularly available against a zone defense as well. Zones have a difficult time seeing a play develop because screens aren’t always fought through. Combine that with zones usually having less ball pressure on the perimeter and you can easily get a quick lob against a zone if it is drawn up the right way. Here is a very good one from Coach Bert DeSalvo.

Formation is a 4-out 1-in formation to start. 1 enters to 2 on the wing. 4 cuts to the middle of the floor, then relocates to the opposite block as 3 slides up to replace him.

2 reverses back to 1 and 1 reverses to 3 quickly. 5 Screens the middle (x5) of zone, while 4 occupies x4 by either posting hard or drawing out to the short corner. 2 sprints for lob at the rim, while x3 fails to communicate with x5 to drop that quickly.
