Post Rip Quick Hitters by Wes Kosel

Coaches are always looking for new ways to get the ball inside, whether it is to a traditional big man or a big guard. There are many ways to get the ball inside, but this “rip quick hitters” series goes through a few ways to set a screen in transition for your trailing big man. Included is a fourth play showing a ball screen – roll/short roll option. If you have a wing or guard who likes to post up you can run them off of the rip screen as well.

Post Rip #1

1 dribbles to the right wing pushing 2 in towards the lane line to set a back screen for 4 at the right elbow. 5 moves away from the action and 4 posts up on the right block. 1 looks to pass directly in to 4. If he isn’t open, 1 can pass to 2. This works great if the defense switches putting x2 on 4 in the post.

Post Rip #2

2 sets the back screen for 4, but this time x4 tries to go underneath the screen. When 4 sees this happen, he sprints right into a ball screen for 1 on the right wing. x4 will be playing catch-up from here to try to defend the wing ball screen.

Post Rip #3

1 dribbles to the right wing as 2 sets the back screen for 4. The ball is reversed through 2 and 3 looks to pass to 5 posting up on the opposite block. This option can work well if x5 is trying to sniff out the 2/4 action. This play can also lead to some high low options with 5 or 4 flashing high to the elbow.

Post Rip #4

This play doesn’t have a rip screen, but 5 sets a high ball screen for 2 and 2 dribbles right to left. 5 rolls and 4 makes a circle cut under the basket.
