Tyronn Lue NBA Cleveland Cavaliers Lob Plays by Wes Kosel
Below are two NBA Cleveland Cavaliers Lob Plays used by Cleveland in game 4 against the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. Cleveland has been using this set often in the playoffs and have had success putting LeBron James at the elbow in the horns formation. In both of these plays, the ball is entered to LeBron James at the right elbow. This immediately puts Toronto a tough spot defensively with LeBron having the ball in a dangerous position. LeBron can shoot the mid-range jumper, pass to a cutter out of the horns series, or drive to the rim. This move by Coach Lue to put LeBron at the elbow was a great coaching decision as it has opened up scoring opportunities for LeBron, Matthew Dellavedova, Richard Jefferson, and Kevin Love. It is a simple set but can be used in a variety of ways to take advantage of how the defense plays and adjusts.
NBA Playoffs – Cleveland Cavaliers Horns Point Away Handoff
In this play, Dellavedova gives the ball to LeBron at the right elbow then loops into the lane to set a back screen for Richard Jefferson. Jefferson makes a cut to the right block and Dellavedova cuts around LeBron for a quick handoff. Dellavedova continues to dribble right as LeBron rolls to the rim. In the video, Dellavedova makes a great lob pass to LeBron for a layup.
NBA Playoffs – Cleveland Cavaliers Horns Point Away Lob
This play is similar to the first one, but instead of Jefferson cutting to the block he looks for the lob pass from LeBron right away. The key is for the point guard to set a solid screen at the elbow opening up space for Jefferson to cut to the rim. Having LeBron score on the play earlier in the quarter helped open up the lob for Jefferson.
