Must See X’s & O’s of the Day – Syracuse vs. Duke

Attached in this playbook are two plays from Syracuse and three plays from Duke. The match between the Orange and Blue Devils on Monday ended with a dominating showing on the boards by Syracuse and a loss by Duke. The loss put Duke and Coach K at three straight and two home losses this season. A lot is being made of Duke’s poor performance, but let’s not forget what the critics were saying last year about Duke before the NCAA tournament. Coach K seems to always find a way to turn it around and get his team playing the way he wants once March rolls around. Don’t count the Blue Devils out just yet.

Must See X’s & O’s of the Day – Syracuse Horns Down

1 dribbles off of a staggered ball-screen from 4 and 5. 4 rolls to the basket and 5 sets a down-screen for 3 in the corner. If 3 gets it without a shot, 5 sets a ball-screen for 3 to drive right. 1 then sets a down-screen for 2. If 2 isn’t open in the lane, 5 can screen for 2 who pops out for a shot.

Must See X’s & O’s of the Day – Syracuse Horns Stagger

1 dribbles off of the staggered ball-screen from 4 and 5. Once he clears, 4 and 5 set another staggered screen for 3. Once 3 has cleared, 4 and 5 set a third staggered screen for 2. Lastly, 4 and 5 can set a double back-screen for 1.

Must See X’s & O’s of the Day – Duke 1-4 High

1 passes to 3 and makes a cut to the rim off of 4’s screen. If the cut isn’t there, 4 steps out to set a ball-screen. 5 pops out to the wing. If 3 doesn’t have anything on the pick and roll, he swings to 5 who looks to pass to 1 cutting to the corner off of a screen from 2.

Must See X’s & O’s of the Day – Duke 1-4 High PnR Lob

1 passes to 3 on the wing and makes the UCLA cut off of 4. 4 sets a ball-screen for 3 and 5 steps out. 1 then sets a back-screen for 4 on the roll. 3 looks to make the lob pass to 4.

Must See X’s & O’s of the Day – Duke 1-4 High Post Cross

1 passes to 2 on the wing and 4 screens across for 5. 4 then sets a ball-screen for 2. 2 drives middle and looks to shoot or pass to 5 ducking in near the rim.
