This past weekend was the first NCAA Tournament where Mike White has coached in it. It gives the Gator fans something to look forward to in the post – Billy Donovan era. He came up one victory short of the Final Four, but it won’t be difficult for Coach White to be optimistic about their future.
The fourth seed Florida Gators went cold from three-point range in the second half where they missed all fourteen of their attempts. South Carolina rallied to beat them 77-70 and earn their first trip to the Final Four, but that shouldn’t be a comment on the Florida Gators.
The Florida Gators are building their program back to where it use to be. This is the program that Mike White envisioned when he left Louisiana Tech and took over Florida in 2015. The Gators missed the NCAA Tournament in Billy Donovan’s last season and Coach White’s first season. Some fans were wondering if the glory days of Florida basketball were over.

Coach White is starting to get the culture back to where it gives them a chance to win enough for the Final Four. Their team this past year was hard-nosed and gritty.
Most Florida fans were hesitant when former athletic director Jeremy Foley hired Mike White, who played guard at Ole Miss, and spent 11 seasons at Lousiana Tech. He was an assistant coach for 11 years and four seasons as head coach at Lousiana Tech.
Mike White has a long way to go before he matches Billy Donovan’s record at the University of Florida, but 48 wins in his first two years as the Gators Coach is a great start.
