I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Attached are two plays used by NC State head coach Mark Gottfried during the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. Gottfried is in his 18th year as a head coach and 4th season as head coach of NC State. Before taking over for the Wolfpack, Gottfried was the head coach of Alabama and Murray State. During his 18 seasons, Gottfried has only had one losing season and has won over 350 games. Gottfried has led Murray State, Alabama, and NC State to NCAA Tournament appearances including an Elite 8 run with Alabama and the current Sweet 16 run by NC State. Before beginning his head coaching career, Gottfried was an assistant at UCLA where the Bruins won the 1995 NCAA Championship.

1 passes to 2 on the wing and then makes a UCLA cut to the block. 3 then pops to the top of the key and gets the pass from 2. Once 3 has the ball, 4 flashes to the pinch post as 1 cuts off of a double screen from 2 and 5. 3 looks to pass to 1 for a shot or pass to 4. If 4 gets the ball, 3 loops around looking for a hand-off and shot.
