I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

SFA went into yesterday’s ESPN Marathon having won 28 consecutive games at home. Their last loss came against Northern Iowa in the 2014 ESPN Marathon.
Kyle Keller inherited an SFA Team rich in tradition and NCAA appearances the last years. In yesterday’s match-up against Big South opponent Longwood, they found themselves in a tight match all the way down the stretch. TJ Holiday had it going for the Jacks though and this little Box Set was designed to get him a look at the basket.
Stephen F. Austin lost seven players, including it’s top three scorers, one that is with the Chicago Bulls, and a team that won 28 games. They ran the table in the Southland Conference and beat No. 3 seed West Virginia in the NCAA tournament.
They also lost their Coach Brad Underwood, the coach that only lost 14 games in his three seasons in Nacogdoches, Texas — to Oklahoma State.
I got to know Coach Kyle Keller when he was at Oklahoma State University. He is a great guy and better recruiter. I think that you will see a dip this year at SFA with their lack of experience, but they will bounce back.
Coach Keller has been around Eddie Sutton at OSU and Billy Kennedy at Texas A&M. He has learned a lot of X’s and O’s plus he was a head coach at Tyler Junior College back in the day. They will surprise a lot of teams out there this year.
