Kevin O’Neill Defensive Drills

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Kevin O’Neill Defensive Drills

Coach Kevin O’Neill is known as one of the game’s best defensive basketball minds out there and is one of the best clinicians that you will ever hear. His man to man defense ideas will motivate you to make your team better on the defensive end of the floor. He has a 2 on 1 help and recover drill, Switch and Change Drill for half court and full court, 1 on 1 blockouts, 2 on 2 sprint to help drill, 3 on o motion offense passing drill, 2 on 0 motion offense passing drill, zig zag drill, and many more drills.

You will learn more about half court defense and full court defense with these Kevin O’Neill Defensive Drills. It’s a great set of half court, full court, and advantage / disadvantage drills as well as his approach to defending the pick and roll.

One of Kevin O’Neill’s words of wisdom are: “There’s only three places you can be: on the ball providing tremendous pressure, in the correct help position, or on the bench!”

You will have to practice this Kevin O’Neill Defensive Drills to become a better half court / full court defense. You don’t have to like the man personally, but he really can coach defense. His offensive teams weren’t very good, but defensively his teams were always in the game.

Coach Kevin O’Neill has coached in the NCAA Division 1 and NBA. He was last seen as the Head Coach of the University of Southern Califoria Trojans right before Andy Enfield took over the team. He has coached at Marquette, Arizona, Memphis Grizzlies, and many more places. You can learn a lot from these drills. I hope that you enjoy them.
