Justin Barkley Rogers State Set Plays by Wes Kosel
Here are three set plays from Rogers State University Head Coach Justin Barkley. 2015-2016 was his sixth season as head coach of the Hillcats. Rogers State, an NCAA Division II university located in Claremore, Oklahoma, went 23-5 this past season. The team won the Heartland Conference season title, but could not participate in post-season play being a Division II provisional member. The Hillcats will be eligible for post season play in 2016-2017. In 6 years, Barkley has compiled a 126-55 record including a 43-13 record in the past two seasons. Barkley was named Heartland Conference Coach of the Year in 2016 and has compiled a 74-13 home record while in Claremore.
Barkley got his coaching start as a graduate assistant under Larry Gipson at Northeastern State. He then spent time as an assistant at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and at Rogers State (2008-2010).
Rogers State Hillcats Set Plays
Double Rip Post Up
2 and 3 set a double rip screen for 4. The point guard looks to pass to 4 directly in the post but if he isn’t open 5 sets a down screen for 2. 1 can pass to 2 for a shot at the top of the key.
Ram Stagger Shot
3 moves into the lane to set a screen for 4. 4 sprints out to set a ball screen for 1. 4 then roll into a staggered screen with 5 to screen for 3 cutting out to the perimeter for a shot.
Quick Flare
The point guard passes to 2 on the wing then cuts away to the opposite corner. 5 steps out to set a ball screen for 2. 2 drives middle, but quickly passes to 4 stepping out from the high post. 5 turns to set a flare screen for 2 after he passes. 2 can catch for a shot or rip and drive to the rim.
