I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Jeff Neubauer Eastern Kentucky Colonels 2-3 Offense by Wes Kosel

Attached are 3 options out of the 2-3 high set from Eastern Kentucky Head Coach Jeff Neubauer. The Colonels are coming off of a 24-10 record (11-5 in conference play), an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship, and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Neubauer, who just completed his 9th year at Eastern Kentucky, has seen his ups and down with the team. However, the past two seasons have been strong with a combined 49-20 record. The Colonels were very strong on offense this past season finishing 5th in the country in 3-point FG made per game (9.3), 23rd in 3-point FG % (39.0%) ,and 25th in scoring offense (78.7 ppg). In his 2-3 high sets, Neubauer brings all of his players high creating space to drive to the basket, back-cut, or post up in isolation.

Jeff Neubauer Eastern Kentucky Colonels 2-3 Offense – 2-3 High Weave

The play starts with 1, 4, and 2 executing a dribble hand-off weave. Once 2 has the ball on the right wing, he dribbles towards the top of the key. As 2 approaches, 3 steps up as if continuing the weave but instead cuts hard to the basket. If 3 isn’t open, 2 passes to 1 moving up to the wing. 2 moves to the corner, and 1 looks to pass to 3 cutting up off of a down screen from 5.

Jeff Neubauer Eastern Kentucky Colonels 2-3 Offense – 2-3 High Drop

In this play, 1 dribbles off of a high ball-screen from 5. As he drives to the basket, 3, 4, and 2 all drop to the baseline. 1 looks to kick out to the open man or hit 5 popping for a shot off of the screen.

Jeff Neubauer Eastern Kentucky Colonels 2-3 Offense – 2-3 High Lob

1 passes to 3 then cuts through to the corner. 4 replaces 1 and gets the ball from 3. 4 then dribbles towards 2 as if executing a dribble hand-off, but 2 instead makes a back-cut off of the screen from 5. 4 looks to make the lob pass to 2 for a lay-up or dunk.
