Jason Kidd Milwaukee Bucks Last Second SLOB by Reggie Bibb
Jason Kidd, in just his second year as a head coach and his first with the Milwaukee Bucks, has done a great job of getting a very young Milwaukee Bucks team into the playoffs despite a season ending injury to star rookie Jabari Parker, the departure of center Larry Sanders, and a mid-season trade that sent their leading scorer and the 2013-2014 NBA Most Improved Player Brandon Knight to the Suns for Michael Carter-Williams.
Though they only won 15 games a year ago when they the worst record in the league, the Bucks have played well this season and in the play-offs, and they have a lot to look forward to in the near and distant future. They have played the Bulls tough this series, and they were able to pull-out a big win at home in Game 4 to avoid the sweep.
With 1.3 seconds left, Kidd drew up a great back-cut play for Jerryd Bayless on the baseline to take advantage of an over aggressive Derrick Rose. Dudley was able to hit Bayless at the basket for a lay-up as the buzzer sounds.
The play starts with John Henson (C/F) and OJ Mayo (wing) above the elbows, and Khris Middleton (G/F) in the corner. Jared Dudley is throwing the ball in. Khris Middleton runs off staggered fade screens from Henson and Mayo to the opposite corner. This keeps the paint free, allowing Bayless to go one on one with Rose on the baseline by occupying the Bulls’ defenders.
Bayless then breaks from the opposite block to the corner, setting up the back cut.
When Bayless gets outside of the paint, Dudley gives him a ball fake, getting Rose to bite think Bayless is going to get the ball in the corner. Bayless then cuts back to the basket, wide open for a lay-up.
Dudley makes a great pass, and Bayless finishes. Jason Kidd said that everybody was ‘live’ on this play, and it appears that the next option would be Mayo coming off a screen from Henson cutting to the ball-side corner for a shot.
Here is a video of the play:

Here is a snippet of the Bucks’ post-game interview. Kidd gives credit to Dudley for the pass, talks about how Bayless sets up Rose for the back-cut, and says that everybody was ‘live’ on the play. Bayless then talks about his thought process and that they were trying to beat Rose back-door by acting like he was going to the corner.
