I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Jamie Dixon Pittsburgh Secondary Break by Dana Beszczynski

Jamie Dixon the head coach of the Univeristy of Pittsburgh has built a consistent winner.  This season they’re 17-2 and 12-0 at home where the Panthers during Dixon’s tenure have been nearly unbeatable.

This Secondary Action is just one example of the great tactician Dixon is as it incorporates a lot of movement, use of screens and relies on the players to read the defense in order to take good shots.

The Panthers have moved into the ACC this season and so far, have maintained the level of success they’ve become use to.

Jamie Dixon wasn’t just a good hire for the University of Pittsburgh, but a great hire. The did the best thing in hiring 11 years ago. He has repeatedly turned down other school’s great offers, but he is still second-guessed after every early round exit in the NCAA Tournament, never mind that the last two tourney losses were to teams that reached the Final Four (Wichita State) and national title game (Butler).

Sometimes coaches can become victims of their own success. ESPN analyst Dick Vitale never ceases to be amazed when he hears Pitt fans gripe about Dixon.

Coach Jamie Dixon has been consistent and competitive in the Big East over the years and now we will see how he does it in the ACC.
