Indiana Offense for Yogi Ferrell

Here are two set plays used by Indiana and Coach Tom Crean to create scoring opportunities for Yogi Ferrell. This past season, Indiana won 27 games and finished in 1st place in Big Ten Conference with a 15-3 record. The Hoosiers made it to the Sweet 16, but lost to North Carolina who would go on to the National Championship Game. To get to the Sweet 16, Indiana beat Chattanooga and Kentucky. Tom Crean has won 148 games with the Hoosiers. When he took over for Indiana in 2008-2009, they only won 6 games. In the past five seasons, Indiana has won 20+ games in four of those seasons. Before coming to Indiana, Crean coached at Marquette where he won 190 games in 9 years and made it to the 2003 Final Four.

The video below shows three clips of plays to get Yogi Ferrell dribbling off of ball screens. Ferrell is great at using ball screens and changing speeds on the attack. The video has two different ball screen actions that Indiana uses.

Transition Orlando

Quickly coming down the floor, Indiana goes into a dribble handoff followed by a down screen. This “Orlando Action” allows Ferrell to attack into the lane while his defender gets through a handoff and a ball screen. Ferrell is able to get an open jump shot after curling the combination action.
