Wes Kosel will enter his first season as an Assistant Coach at Augustana University under Tom Billeter in 2016-2017. Kosel came to Sioux Falls after two season at Colorado College as the lead assistant. Kosel, a native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, served as an assistant coach at Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Texas Lutheran University from 2012-2014. Kosel graduated from the University of Kansas in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He also has a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Houston. While attending Kansas, Kosel served as an assistant coach at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. A life-long student of the game, Kosel honed his coaching skills by working summer camps for various programs in Texas, Colorado, Missouri, and New Mexico. Kosel also is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Personal Trainer, both of which are certifications earned through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Kosel and his wife, Molly, live in Colorado Springs.



Horns Pick and Roll Sets

Attached in this playbook are 7 pick and roll sets out of the horns formation. Many of the plays go to a pick & roll look right away, but as you will see there is also a couple of plays that utilize a side pick & roll and even a post on post pick & roll. The position of the 4 and 5 man in the horns formation is perfect for creating pick & roll angles using the slot and the lane lines. If you have a big that can shoot as the pop or replace man, this can add another dimension to your pick & roll plays.

Horns Pick & Roll Sets – Ole Miss Rebels – Horns PNR

1 uses the screen from 4 and dribbles right. 4 rolls and 5 pops. If 5 doesn’t have anything, he swings the ball to 3 and sets a ball-screen on the wing.

Horns Pick & Roll Sets – Finland – Horns PNR Block Pin

1 dribbles off of the ball-screen from 4. 4 rolls into a second ball-screen for 1. 1 dribbles middle as 5 screens away for 3.

1 passes to 5 at the high post then clears to the right. 4 sets a ball-screen for 5. 5 drives as 4 rolls.

1 dribbles off of 5’s screen. 5 rolls and 4 pops. 4 passes to 5 inside.

1 dribbles to the right and uses a ball-screen from 4. 5 dives to the rim and 3 moves up to the wing looking for a shot.

1 passes to 3 then makes a back-cut off of 5. 5 then sets a ball-screen for 3 and rolls to the rim.

Just like the Golden State Warriors play, this is a horns hi/lo option. This diagram shows the defender getting out of position for the posts to make the hi/lo play.
