Gregg Popovich San Antonio Spurs TD Hammer Action Set Play

The San Antonio Spurs are not soaring through the NBA season this year. Most NBA people believe that we are seeing the decline of Tony Parker and the aging veterans around him. The San Antonio Spurs are 38-23, 4th in Southwest Division. They just beat the Denver Nuggets last night 120-111.

The San Antonio Spurs run the TD Hammer Action Set Play which was really effective for Danny Green in the NBA Playoffs last year. He shot 47.4% from the corner three in the finals. His long distance looks were the final punctuation mark on a great play that Coach Popovich had drawn up and I am going to share it with you.

Most of Danny Green’s 3 point attempts are assisted with the use of Hammer Action. The San Antonio Spurs pass the ball more than any other team in the NBA and all that passing is leading up to the kinds of wide-open looks that spot-up shooter like Green thrive on.

The Spurs TD Hammer Action Set Play is where the ball handler drives to the baseline on one side of the floor in order to make a pass to a shooter floating toward the opposite corner with help of a back screen which is a classic example of the mis-direction that Coach Popovich likes to use.
