Wes Kosel will enter his first season as an Assistant Coach at Augustana University under Tom Billeter in 2016-2017. Kosel came to Sioux Falls after two season at Colorado College as the lead assistant. Kosel, a native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, served as an assistant coach at Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Texas Lutheran University from 2012-2014. Kosel graduated from the University of Kansas in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He also has a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Houston. While attending Kansas, Kosel served as an assistant coach at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. A life-long student of the game, Kosel honed his coaching skills by working summer camps for various programs in Texas, Colorado, Missouri, and New Mexico. Kosel also is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Personal Trainer, both of which are certifications earned through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Kosel and his wife, Molly, live in Colorado Springs.

Golden State Warriors Post Plays by Wes Kosel

Attached in this playbook are six set plays from the Golden State Warriors. Although the Warriors are known for their 3-point shooting, they do a great job of moving the ball and get a lot of open looks around the rim for their bigs.

Golden State Warriors Post Plays – 5 Duck-in

1 dribbles off of a high ball screen from 4 and immediately looks to pass to 5 ducking in near the rim.

Golden State Warriors Post Plays – Corner Post

1 dribbles to the right pushing 3 into a shallow cut to the top of the key. 4 moves into the lane and looks to post up. Once 4 has the ball, 1 and 3 set a staggered screen for 5.

Golden State Warriors Post Plays – Elbow PTP

The Warriors start in a 1-4 high set and 1 passes to 2 on the left wing. 3 sets a back-screen for 4 who cuts to the ball side block. 2 looks to pass to 4 posting up or can pass to 3 cutting off of a screen from 5.

Golden State Warriors Post Plays – Post Flash

1 passes to 5 flashing up to the elbow. 1 then screens for 3 who cuts around 5 looking for a hand-off. If 3 gets the ball, 5 and 1 screen for 4 who cuts into the lane looking for the pass from 3.

Golden State Warriors Post Plays – Post Iso

1 passes to 5 posting up on the right block. 1 then screens for 3 at the top of the key. On the read, 3 can make a back-cut to the rim. If that happens and 3 isn’t open, 5 can dribble to the elbow looking to give the ball up on a hand-off. The Warriors can then continue the motion with 4 giving the ball to 3 on a hand-off and 1 setting a screen behind the hand-off.

5 screens for 2 then gets a post pass. 1 clears to the opposite corner as 2 and 4 set a staggered screen for 3.

Wes Kosel is an assistant coach for men’s basketball under Head Coach Andy Partee at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. Kosel joined the staff at Colorado College after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at Texas Lutheran University and one season at Haskell Indian Nations University. He is also the head coach for the JV team at Colorado College. Kosel has an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Houston. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), both certifications given through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. He has coached summer AAU programs, volunteered with elementary and middle school basketball teams, and has worked basketball camps for various programs including the Houston Rockets, USA Basketball, University of Houston, Colorado, New Mexico, Air Force, Texas State, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Kosel is also a member of the NABC International Committee and serves as the committee’s social media manager.
