Fred Hoiberg – Chicago Bulls Flip Clear by Wes Kosel
This is a transition set play used by Coach Fred Hoiberg during the NBA pre-season. Hoiberg is looking to improve on last year’s record of 42-40. The 2015-2016 season was Hoiberg’s first with the Chicago Bulls. Before coming to the NBA, Hoiberg was the head coach at his alma mater, Iowa State. After his first season of 16-16, he led the Cyclones to four-straight 23+ win seasons and four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2014, Iowa State went 28-8 and made it to the Sweet 16. The Cyclones also won the Big 12 Conference Tournament in back-to-back seasons (2014 and 2015). Hoiberg’s teams are known for high-powered offense and excellent spacing on the court. At Iowa State, Hoiberg became the fastest coach in school history to get to 100 wins doing so in just 148 games. Hoiberg played at Iowa State and also played in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls. He was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in 1995 as the 52nd overall pick in the 2nd round.

Fred Hoiberg – Chicago Bulls Flip Clear
This play was used in the Chicago Bull’s pre-season game last week and starts with a quick transition drag on the right side of the floor. 2 and 3 ran the left side of the floor on this play, so 1 already has quite a bit of space to work with on the right. After 1 drives middle, he turns back to get a flip ball screen from 4 (now facing the opposite direction). This screen forces x1 to have to get through back-to-back ball screens. As 1 drives baseline now, 5 clears to the opposite side of the lane. 4 will pop to the 3-point line for a shot or to the elbow high post area.
