Frank Martin South Carolina Gamecocks Philly Swirl Quick Hitter by Adam Spinella
At some point, college teams develop their best offense as a motion or continuity, and then have a bunch of quick hitters and reads that get them into their sets. Frank Martin and his Gamecocks are no difference, with this unique Philly action that gets them into their 4-around-1 motion action. Watch how the unsuspecting and unusual cut from the man starting in the corner opens up an opportunity for a post-up.
As 1 dribbles up the court, 3 makes a Philly cut off 4 and 5. As that happens, 2 usually balances out the floor going to the opposite corner. However, the Gamecocks have him pop up thru an Elevator action from 4 and 5. 1 can either hit 3 off the Philly screen or 2 thru the Elevator.
Either way he goes, the two bigs will swirl off each other in a screening action. The big man farther away from the ball drops down into the post, and the other big will pop to the perimeter after they rub off each other. The rest of the guards balance out the floor and fill the other perimeter spots.
