“Flat” Baseline Out of Bounds Plays
The four players along the baseline for a BLOB set is very difficult to guard for a team that plays man. They have to at least shade in front of the player they are guarding so that there isn’t a quick pass and score. This allows a lot of space to get the ball in bounded from the baseline to half court.
This set takes advantage of the defensive position to get a quick layup for the post player. The one man sprints to the elbow and the in-bounder lobs the ball. Teach your player to use his body to shield the defender from getting a deflection or steal. Right after the 1 man takes off the 5 man sprints to the other elbow and should receive the pass from the 1 man. At this point the 5 man’s defender will be shading the inside which sets him up for the back-screen.
The 2 man sprints to the wing for the ball which he receives from the 5 man and the in-bounder (3 man), comes up the lane and sets a back-screen for 5 curling to the basket for a layup.
Depending on your personnel and the defensive tendencies of your opponent, you may want to have the back-screen set for the 4 man in the corner. If the back-screen is set on the 5 man there is a chance that the defender guarding the 3 man may take away the cut from 5. This is one of the great baseline out of bounds plays for that action.
