I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Double High Post Stack BLOB Option by Wes Kosel

Here are 4 baseline out-of-bounds options out of a double high post stack formation. At TLU we have played three conference games this season and 2 of the 3 opponents used an option out of this formation. To line up, your best scorer or shooter should be in the 3 spot. Your big men or best screeners should be at the 4 and 5 spots. Your second shooter should be at the 2 spot and your best passer/decision maker should pass the ball inbounds.

Double High Post Stack BLOB Option 1: 3 cuts to the wing or short corner off of 5 and 4. You can have 4 and 5 screen if you like or just have 3 run off of them. This option will work best when 3’s defender follows 3 around the double stack at the high post. After 3 has cleared the elbow, 5 makes a hard cut to the opposite block. If 5’s defender helps over to deny the pass to 3 then 5 will have an open cut toward the basket.

Double High Post Stack BLOB Option 2: 3 moves toward 4 and 5 as if he is going to cut to the wing. Instead, 3 makes a hard cut to the basket looking for a pass from 1 for a lay-up. This option will work best when 3’s defender attempts to jump the screen over the top. 5 cuts to the corner looking for a shot. If needed, 4 can step back toward the three-point line to be an outlet for the inbounds.

Double High Post Stack BLOB Option 3: Again 3 moves toward 4 and 5 as if he is going to cut to the wing. Instead, 3 fades up toward the 3 point line looking for a pass over the top of the defense from 1. This option works best when 3’s defender attempts to jump the screen underneath 4. If open, 3 can take the shot. At the same time, 5 cuts to the basket and 4 cuts to the corner.

Double High Post Stack BLOB Option 4: 3 cuts directly to the low block looking to catch his defender off-guard. If open, 1 passes to 3 for an easy lay-up. If 3 isn’t open, 4 pops to the corner and receives the pass from 1. As this is happening, 2 steps in toward the lane then cuts off of a screen from 5. 2 should read his defender and cut to the open spot off of the screen from 5. If open, 4 passes to 2 for a shot.

Best of luck and hope you enjoy these Double High Post Stack BLOB options.
