Cross Quick Hitter by Mark Chapman
This quick hitter is a great play if you have a very athletic 3 or 4 man that is a threat with the ball. On the initial pass to the high post if your 4 man is a threat it will cause the defender to play tight which sets up the backscreen. Whichever side the ball is entered to, that side post position relocates to the corner (usually a shooting guard) and the post player that is at the other high post relocates to the ball side block.
The one man takes the hand-off from the 4 man and the 2 man that is on the block sets a diagonal back screen for the 4 man. From this position all defensive players are being taken out of help side which allows the lob to occur without the backside getting a steal.
Point guard needs to make sure that he keeps the defense honest and looks to the post player before throwing the lob. If necessary the ball can be entered to either the post or the corner shooter to make the pass off of the back screen. Always teach players to read the defense as some teams will sniff out the play and cheat off. If the post defender helps off the ball should be entered right away for an easy basket.
This quick hitter may be best used after halftime or out of a time out so that it doesn’t have to be called from the bench and tip off your opponent.
