NCAA Divison 1 Basketball: Hi/Lo Set Plays by Wes Kosel
Included in this NCAA Division 1 Basketball playbook are five set plays using the hi/lo action. Hi/Lo plays can work great for your offense, but your players have to understand the proper footwork and post positioning. NCAA Division 1 Basketball: Hi/Lo plays require great accuracy on the passes as well. Hi/Lo passing lanes are typically created with good spacing and a reversal of the basketball from one wing to the other. The reversal of the ball allows the post player to hook and hold the post defender (typically on the outside hip). The Hi/Lo pass then can be made towards the basket from the elbow, high post, or top of the key.
NCAA Divison 1 Basketball: Hi/Lo Set Plays
Kentucky Wildcats – 1-4 High Hi/Lo
This 1-4 high set play from Kentucky sends 4 to the block on a post screen. After screening, 5 flashes to the ball at the left elbow. Once 5 has the ball he can shoot or look inside at 4.
Duke Blue Devils – 1-4 UCLA Hi/Lo
Coach Mike Krzyzewski runs this UCLA/ball-screen combination action to get 4 rolling in to the post. If nothing is created on the ball-screen, 3 passes to 5 at the high post. 5 has several options (score, pass to 2, dribble towards 2, or pass hi/lo to 4 inside).
UNC – Asheville Bulldogs – Trail Hi/Lo
This play can be used as a quick hitter in transition. If 5’s defender isn’t ready, 5 ducks in as 4 catches the ball at the top of the key and gets the entry pass for an easy layup.
Texas A&M Aggies – Stacks Curl Hi/Lo
4 and 5 get to the hi/lo after 3 and 2 cut off of the blocks and out to the wings.
Augustana (SD) Vikings – Post Stack Hi/Lo
Augustana won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2016 and had some great post play. In this hi/lo action, 4 loops around 5 on the left block. 1 passes to 4 at the high post and immediately looks inside to 5 posting up.
