Brad Stevens Boston Celtics Set Plays by Wes Kosel
This Brad Stevens Boston Celtics playbook features four plays from the 2015-2016 season. Stevens just finished his 3rd season in the NBA leading the Celtics to a 48-34 record. The Celtics have improved their win total each year with Brad Stevens leading the team (from 25 in 2014 to 48 in 2016). After missing the playoffs his first year, Stevens has led the Celtics to back-to-back playoff appearances.
Before taking over in Boston, Stevens was the head coach at Butler in Indianapolis. The DePauw graduate led Butler to a 166-49 record in six seasons, good for winning over 77% of his games. Butler made it to the NCAA Championship game in consecutive seasons, losing in both trips. The Bulldogs finished 1st in the Horizon League for four straight seasons (2007-2011).
The video below shows the plays so you can get a sense of how Coach Stevens used them in the game.

BLOB 4 Low Flex Curl
In the baseline out-of-bounds play, Isaiah Thomas does a great job reading the defense and curls the down screen for an easy shot in the lane. Before making his cut, Thomas is the flex screener after throwing the ball into play.
Corner Ram Flare
The Celtics run a “ram” action (down screen into a ball screen) to get a ball screen set in the slot with the defender at an immediate disadvantage. The ball screener then gets a flare screen to open up a 3-point shot.
Decoy Weave Floppy
You can really see the brilliance of Brad Stevens here in this play. He uses a lot of movement to get the defenders chasing his cutters around the floor. At the perfect opportunity, a shooter uses a cut to catch and score.
Flash High Wing Exchange
Brad Stevens uses the passing skills of Sullinger to open up the floor in this play. Once Sullinger has the ball at the top of the key, double down screens are set to open up shooters on either side.
