Bobby Hurley – Arizona State BLOB Post Slip by Wes Kosel
Here is another great baseline out-of-bounds set from Arizona State Head Coach Bobby Hurley. Hurley, who began his coaching career as an assistant at Wagner, is entering his second season with the Sun Devils after spending two years as head coach of the Buffalo Bulls. At Buffalo, he had a 42-20 record and a 25-11 Mid-American Conference record. In his first season with the Sun Devils, they went 15-17. Hurley also spent time as an assistant at Rhode Island in 2012 before starting his head coaching career. At Buffalo, the Bulls won the 2015 MAC Tournament Championship leading to an NCAA Tournament appearance. At Duke, Hurley lost a total of 26 games going 29-9, 32-7, 34-2, and 24-8. He was an integral part of the back-to-back championship run that Duke made in 1991 and 1992.
Bobby Hurley – Arizona State Baseline Out Of Bounds Offense
BLOB Post Slip
This play starts in a box formation with 1 throwing the ball in, 5 and 4 on the blocks, and 2 and 3 on the elbows. This play can be used against a straight up coverage or switching defense, but it is the job of the point guard throwing the ball in to read the defense and make the correct pass. By putting a good shooter in the 2 spot, it forces x5 to help when 5 screens for 2 to cut to the wing. If x4 is hugging his man (like he is in the video above), 5 can slip easily to the rim for a layup. If x4 does help over, 1 can try to pass to 4 in the opposite short corner for a shot. Against a switch, the slip may be there as well since x2 will initially be above 5 on the screen.
