Bob Walsh Dynamic Leadership Academy Notes

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Bob Walsh Dynamic Leadership Academy Notes

The Bob Walsh Dynamic Leadership Academy Notes were taken at the Dynamic Leadership academy for leaders and coaches. The goal of this workshop is to have an interactive discussion on leadership and team building. These Bob Walsh Dynamic Leadership Academy Notes will touch on a number of different basketball and leadership topics while providing different perspectives from head coaches, assistant coaches, athletic administrators and the media. It’s a way to have access to a championship program and a different way to help define your leadership style.

The speakers will discuss Creating A Championship Culture – Progressive Team Building, Change Management in a Team Setting, An Uncommon Approach To Leadership, Networking For Career Advancement, Defining Your Defensive System, Recruiting and Where Leadership Begins, and Advanced Statistical Analysis and How It Creates Leadership

Speakers at the 2013 DLA included Ed Cooley (Providence), Kyle Smith (Columbia), Bob Walsh (Rhode Island College), Vin Parise (NBC Sports) and Phil O’Brien (Harvard Business School/York Consulting Group), and professional players Ryan Gomes and John Linehan.

The Leadership Academy will also have discussions on topics like “Coaching a Confident Team” and “Building a Championship Culture.” Coach Bob Walsh will lead some forums but also tab Columbia head coach Kyle Smith, Cox Sports’ Vin Parise and a Harvard Business School-trained management consultant to present on other topics.

PC’s Ed Cooley will talk about evaluating talent and recruiting and three former Friars — All-America Ryan Gomes, national Defensive Player of the Year John Linehan and four-year starting point guard Donnie McGrath — will share their views on coaching from a player’s perspective.

We have a new basketball coaching contributor in Mark Chapman who is the Head Boy’s Basketball Coach at Hamilton Township High School in Columbus, Ohio. Coach Mark Chapman always has great basketball plays and basketball coaching clinic notes to share with the basketball coaching world. Make sure that you check out his basketball X’s and O’s material. You will love some of his coaching ideas.
