Bob McKillop Davidson Wildcats Motion Offense

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Bob McKillop Davidson Wildcats Motion Offense

Bob McKillop took over at Davidson College in 1989 and he kept a copy of sports illustrated in his office to show recruits. He showed former Davidson star Mike Maloy on the cover and would challenge his recruits to dream about being ranked in the Top 20 and playing games in Madison Square Garden.

Davidson plays VCU in the A-10 Tournament today. Coach Bob McKillop has the Davidson Wildcats playing a faster style of play with their Motion Offense. Scoring is at an all time low and most people say that coaches are killing the game. That Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Virginia are stressing defense and stressing lower scoring.

Coach Bob McKillop provides an attacking, relentless, and skilled basketball. Davidson is scoring 80.6 ponts a game for #5 in the nation. They averagre 10.9 three point field goals per game. Virginia has played beautiful defense this year, but Davidson is the offensive version of them.

We have put together his and some other versions of the motion offense.

I found this video on Youtube. The video credit goes to John Leonzo.

Bob McKillop has confidence in his system and values a good teammate over a great athlete. They prefer precise shooting over gaudy statistics. They want players that will buy into a specific role over one that demands the ball.

I believe that Coach Bob McKillop has done a beautiful job of teaching his kids to play offense via spacing and cutting. They are very close to playing a beautiful game and you should check them out today if you love motion offense.

In 26 years at Davidson college, Coach Bob McKillop has won 495 games, made the NCAA tournament seven times and shepherded a small, lightly recruited Stephen Curry on a path toward NBA stardom.

Bob McKillop’s most famous player ever was Stephen Curry, who is a serious candidate for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player this season with Golden State Warriors and who led Davidson College to the Elite Eight in the 2008 NCAA tournament.
